Comprehensive Testing Day & PSAT

Comprehensive Testing Day will be held on October 15th, 2015 for 9th, 10th, and 11th graders.
On Thursday, October 15th, Erie’s Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors will be involved in some important testing activity which is aimed at helping all of our students improve their ACT scores, the test that colleges use to determine admission and scholarship qualification.
Erie High School has shown steady improvement in our school’s ACT scores over the years that we have had our students take these practice tests, so we continue to make them available to students each year.

Research continues to show that the greater the number of times a student takes the ACT, the higher their score tends to be.  Erie High School gives its students three opportunities to take a version of the ACT before they take the official test in the spring of their Junior year.

The tests are as follow:

  • The ACT ASPIRE Test:  This test is for Freshman students and follows a similar format at the ACT.  It is based on what a typical 9th grader should know at this point in their education and is a good indicator of how the student will perform on the ACT.  The test will take place on computers and all Freshmen students will take the test.  Students will have the opportunity to better understand their strengths and vulnerabilities on the test and work throughout this year using an online software called
  • The Practice ACT Test: This test will be taken by Sophomore and Junior students and follows the same format at the ACT.  It is based on what a typical 11th grader should know so typical 10th graders may score as well as they will next year.  It is an excellent indicator of how the student will perform on the ACT.  As was stated above, the greater exposure to the ACT, the better our students perform.
These test are given in the morning.  Classes will resume after lunch on October 15th on a modified schedule.
All Seniors are asked to either visit a local college campus, investigate their choices for colleges, work on applications or come to the school to work in the EHS library with staff members who are experienced at filling out college applications.  These teachers will be available to help Seniors fill out their applications and answer questions they may have.
The schedule for the remainder of the day is as follows:
  • Testing: 7:25 - 10:50am
  • Lunch: 10:50 - 11:30am
  • Block 5: 11:30 - 12:10pm
  • Block 6: 12:15 - 12:55pm
  • Block 7: 1:00 - 1:40pm
  • Block 8: 1:45 - 2:25pm

The PSAT will be given the day before the Comprehensive Testing Day, on Wednesday, October 14th, from 7:30 - 11am.  100 students will be tested by invitation only: mostly juniors and some select sophomores.
