EHS Teacher Receives National Award

Erie High School's own Julie Mitchell has been named the 2017 National Geology Teacher of the Year by the Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) Foundation which exists to support the geosciences. Since 1967, the AAPG Foundation has provided funding for a variety of educational and research programs that benefit the geologic profession and the general public. The Foundation continues to promote a better understanding and advancement of the geosciences through the dissemination of technological information, recognizing outstanding achievements and by funding grants, publications and other initiatives that support the preservation of data, training and career enhancement for current and future geoscientists.

Mrs Mitchell has been invited to participate in the Annual Convention and Exhibition taking place in Houston, Texas from April 2nd through 5th.  Here, she will be a guest of honor at a luncheon and will be invited to the stage at the George R Brown Convention Center to accept her award and say a few words about her work at Erie High School and Geosciences.

In addition to the title National Geology Teacher of the Year, Julie Mitchell will an award of $3000 for use in her classroom as well as an additional $3000 for Erie High School.
