Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY)
November 17, 2017, 4:54pm By Main Office
Do you have what it takes?
Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) offers an opportunity for sophomores to develop strong skills in leadership and service to their community. Each year, Erie High sends one sophomore to this 3-day workshop in Denver. A parent of an EHS and HOBY alum pays the fee for our student. Current sophomores are selected as representatives from their high schools because they have demonstrated the potential to lead others. HOBY believes students like you represent the future leaders of the world—leaders in business, education, government, or any field you choose—because YOU are someone who will make a difference.
HOBY's mission is to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation. Our organizational values are volunteerism, integrity, excellence, diversity and community partnership. Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership provides lifelong leadership development opportunities that empower individuals to achieve their highest potential.
HOBY offers a conference each summer to one sophomore student from each high school. This year, HOBY will be held at the University of Denver from June 21st to June 24th, 2018. Please check out the Colorado HOBY page for more information about this exciting opportunity.
Students interested in applying for this workshop should answer the following questions in a short essay. This is due to Ms. Pohlman in the EHS counseling office no later than December 12, 2017.
What do you believe the definition of a leader to be and why is leadership important?
Describe one circumstance where you fulfilled a leadership position as well as its impact.
More information about the conference will be sent to the parents of the selected student.
