The Erie High School math department offers math tutoring on Wednesday after school and kids are taking full advantage of it. So many students were showing up for additional help that the Math Department is working on having a second day of tutoring available to students who need to retake or make-up a test or just need some additional help to understand their math. We should have that second day available for the second semester.
This year Erie High School also has a school club with national ties, Mu Alpha Theta. This club is for students who are good at or just really enjoy mathematics. Mu Alpha Theta is a Mathematics Honor Society and is dedicated to inspiring a keen interest in mathematics, developing strong scholarship in the subject, and promoting the enjoyment of mathematics in high school. As of June 2017, more than 110,000 students are Mu Alpha Theta members at more than 2,400 schools in the United States and in 20 foreign countries.
Part of their outreach to the students of Erie High School is providing tutoring for their classmates who need extra help understanding math. Mu Alpha Theta is sponsored at Erie High School by Anna Williams.
