Principal's Update - March 3, 2015

Good Afternoon Parents & Students:

March is already in like a lion! There are a lot of exciting things happening at EHS, including the beginning of our spring sports seasons (girls soccer, girls golf, baseball, and track and field). We are hoping the weather warms up so we can get our student athletes outside to practice and compete.

Please take a look at the following updates and celebrations:

1. Next week, freshmen, sophomores, and juniors begin taking PARCC assessments. We are not changing our school schedule or pulling students from normal classes during the testing. Because PARCC assessments are computer based, they are much easier to administer than the previous TCAP assessments. Students will take these assessments in their English and math classes over the coming weeks.

2. EHS is a growing school. Next year, we are planning for approximately 270 incoming freshmen. Our outgoing senior class is 176 students. Because of growth, we are able to continue adding new programs and opportunities for our students.

3. The Engineering program is attracting a lot of interest among our students. A team of teachers and counselors reviewed about 70 applications last week. We will be contacting students and families soon about acceptance to the program and next steps.

4. Friday evening at 7 pm (March 6th) Erie High School is proud to host the Bao Bao festival. If you haven't seen this amazing display of West African dance and culture, don't miss it! All donations from the performance go to the construction of a library in a rural town in Ghana.

That's all for now. As always, if you have questions or suggestions please contact me. Thank you for all you do to support Erie High School and GO TIGERS!
