Senior college process – 09.16.2022

Dear Erie High School Families,

Thank you all for your support in another successful week at Erie High School.  Whether in the hallways, classrooms, athletic fields, or performance stages, it has been a great week to be an Erie Tiger.  I appreciate the continued efforts of our students, faculty, and staff, and the ongoing support of our families as we all work together to support the best possible outcomes for our students.  As we settle into fall, we are entering an incredibly busy and exciting time in our school year.

I am excited to highlight several upcoming opportunities for our students and important community events.

On Wednesday, September 21st, our outstanding Erie High School counseling team will meet with our seniors during Advisory regarding the college application process.  This is an important opportunity for the Erie HS class of 2023 to learn more about the college selection and application process – I encourage our students to take full advantage of this Advisory opportunity.

Wednesday, September 21st is an important day in advisory class for seniors! Counselors will be talking with seniors about the college application process, scholarships, and upcoming opportunities. The information shared will also be distributed to families to review with students. It’s an exciting time for seniors and we look forward to partnering with you along the way!

Families can learn more about how to pay for college from the College Funding Coach on September 22nd.

We will host Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 11 & 12 from 3:45 – 6:45 pm.  This year, our P/T Conferences will be held in person so that parents and teachers have a chance to connect face-to-face.  P/T Conferences are an important opportunity for families to learn more about the progress of their child(ren) in their classes.  Mr. Cooper will be sharing more specific details and information with our families as we approach conferences.

Additionally, on October 12th, we will host our 2022 Fall PSAT/NMSQT test for 11th-grade students, as well as a full-length practice PSAT for our 9th and 10th-grade students.  On this day, our seniors will have an asynchronous day of learning.  The PSAT/NMSQT is an important opportunity for our juniors to not only complete the PSAT but also to earn an opportunity to be considered for the prestigious National Merit Scholarship Program.  I am also thrilled that we will be able to offer a practice PSAT to all of our freshmen and sophomores on this day.  These are important experiences for our students to develop and enhance their aptitude in the SAT suite of tests which play an important role in the postsecondary planning and opportunities for our Erie High School students.

Also on October 12th at 7pm, Erie High’s Deans of Students will premiere a video presentation to recognize students who earned a 3.75 GPA or better during the Spring semester of 2022 at EHS. Though the video presentation will debut online at 7pm, families of students on the Dean’s List may watch the presentation at their leisure anytime as it will remain posted indefinitely.

Thank you for your ongoing support of your child(ren) and Erie High School.  You all play a vital role in the success of our students inside and outside of the classroom.  I appreciate your support.  Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Josh Griffin
Erie High School Principal
