Dear Erie High School Families,
It has been a great Homecoming Week at Erie High School. I am grateful to our Student Government and faculty leaders for organizing and supporting an outstanding week. The positive energy and enthusiasm in our school is contagious!
Tonight, our Erie High School football team will take on Monarch High School for the Homecoming football game. We look forward to the huge support of our students, staff, families, and community members for this game. Thank you for supporting our efforts to have a fun, positive, and uplifting experience for our student-athletes this evening at Tigers Stadium.
I am looking forward to the Homecoming Dance on Saturday night (also at Tigers Stadium). The Homecoming Dance is a fun and important community event that I know will be a great experience for our students. At this time, we are expecting approximately 1,400 students in attendance. Our StuGo has done an incredible job of planning this great event, and I appreciate the leadership of Mr. Cooper in setting up a sound plan that allows for quality supervision and support of a safe event.
The success of our Homecoming Dance depends upon the support and engagement of so many people, including all students, chaperones, and families. I appreciate the support of our Erie High School families in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all students during the Homecoming Dance and throughout the weekend. Thank you for encouraging your child(ren) to enjoy a fun, safe, and exciting weekend!
The week of October 10th is another big week at Erie High School. We are hosting Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 11th and 12th from 3:45 – 6:45 pm. Thank you to the families that have already signed up for our scheduled, appointment-based time slots on Tuesday, October 11th. Wednesday, October 12th, our conferences will be in an “open house” format, where families can stop by and meet with teachers to learn more about how their child is doing in class. In order to honor everyone’s time and sustain an orderly, focused conference session, we ask all families to plan on meeting with their teachers for up to 6 minutes at a time. This will allow our teachers to meet with as many families as possible during our schedule conference sessions.
Additionally, on October 12th, we will host our 2022 PSAT/NMSQT administration for the Erie High School Class of 2024, as well as practice PSAT tests for the classes of 2025 (sophomores) and 2026 (freshman). Our seniors will have a day of asynchronous learning on Wednesday, October 12th. The PSAT and practice PSAT sessions are important opportunities for our students to familiarize themselves with the SAT suite of assessments and should serve as helpful preparation for future SAT administrations. I encourage all students to participate in these opportunities, and I wish all of our students great success.
The PSAT/NMSQT serves an additional purpose, as through this administration, students across the United States can qualify for the prestigious National Merit Scholarship program. In the past two weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to recognize and honor the 2023 National Merit Commended Scholars from Erie High School. Please join me in honoring Levi Glaze, Logan Maddox, Anthony Molnar, Aria Pickett, Oliver Ramirez, and Natalie Woodland for this incredible achievement. They placed among the top 3% of American high school juniors in the October 2021 administration of the PSAT/NMSQT.
