Rose Hopman from the Longmont Twin Peaks Rotary Club contacted us to let us know about an exciting opportunity. Every year the Rotary feels privileged to extend their invitation to SVVSD high school students to apply for a unique educational leadership experience. The club would like to sponsor a student interested in attending the World Affairs Seminar 2022 on Reimagining Global Health and Wellness: Contagious Ideas.
The 2022 World Affairs Seminar is Saturday, June 18th – Friday, June 24th at Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisconsin. This year hybrid, in person and virtual, attendance is available. This seminar is for students who fit the following criteria:
– Students must be between the ages of 16-18.
– Must have completed their sophomore, junior, or senior year in high school.- Are in good academic standing.
– Have an interest in global issues and building a strong portfolio for college and future careers.
– Can be endorsed by a school official as a student in good academic standing, with integrity, maturity, and a sincere desire to participate in the unique educational opportunity.
We would like students that are interested to complete the application and write a short essay expressing their interest and how they feel they could benefit from attending the 2022 World Affairs Seminar. We would also request that the student(s) awarded a scholarship give a presentation detailing their experience to our rotary group upon their return. All applications and essays should be returned to the Longmont Twin Peaks Rotary Club by March 1, 2022 to allow time to process and select a candidate. (For those able to attend in person, airfare to and from Wisconsin, lodging, and meals are included with this Rotary sponsorship. Please see attachments for more detailed information.) This amazing opportunity has been described by many past participants as a “life-changing experience” so we would like to reach as many deserving students as possible. Please view all seminar details and the application in the link below:

1. School officials/Counselors – Please provide a short letter of endorsement for your students interested in attending the W.A.S. which includes specifics on how they meet all the criteria listed below. (This should be sent with your students’ essays.)
– Students must be between the ages of 16-18.
– Must have completed their sophomore, junior, or senior year in high school.
– Are in good academic standing.
– Have an interest in global issues and building a strong portfolio for college and future careers.
– Can be endorsed by a school official as a student in good academic standing, with integrity, maturity, and a sincere desire to participate in the unique educational opportunity.
2. Students – Please coordinate with your school official to submit their essays to the Twin Peaks Rotary Club. The essay should basically tell Twin Peaks Rotary why they think they would be the best choice to send to the World Affairs Seminar. Often this will include their passions/interests, past activities and their future plans that relate to the seminar topic to make them the best fit as well as how they feel they could benefit from attending the 2022 World Affairs Seminar. (Please note: Even though they will be listing their name and the school they attend, I will be concealing it for reviewing purposes so we can focus on the content and compare applicants.) Additionally: Even though not required, any letters of recommendation the student wishes to submit should be sent at this time as well.
3. Please send the student’s contact information, school endorsement letters, student essays, and any letters of recommendation to the following address by March 1, 2022:
High Plains Bank
600 Kimbark StreetLongmont, CO 80501
Attn: Rose HopmanLongmont Twin Peaks Rotary Club
4. After a student is chosen by our Twin Peaks Rotary Club, I will notify the recipient. (The W.A.S. application can then be completed with the school official and guidance from myself.)
THANK YOU all for your interest! Please view all seminar details in this link: https://worldaffairsseminar.org/was2022/

******MORE QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS?:******
I have received some questions regarding my original email. In case others have the same questions:
Q: I was looking at the registration for WAS. Their website says the registration deadline is May 20 but your email says March 1, 2022.
A: Please go by the highlighted date in my original email to send student essays, school officials letters of endorsement and any letters of recommendation to me on behalf of the Twin Peaks Rotary Club. Since our club is sponsoring the student we need time to review the essays. After choosing a delegate we need time to finalize the trip by connecting with parents to complete travel details with a travel agent and complete the rotary club section of the application so we meet the W.A.S. registration deadline.
Q: Are students completing the WAS application or an application to TP Rotary for sponsorship to attend WAS?
A: Our club will sponsor a student interested in attending the World Affairs Seminar 2022. The Rotary Club does not have an application. We are only interested in the students’ essays, any letters of recommendation, and signed certification from the school counselor that this student meets the criteria required to attend in order for us to review for selection purposes. The W.A.S. needs to process the student’s application and keep it on file for all delegates that attend.
Q. When I click on the link, it takes us to registration forms, etc., so I was curious about the payment process, etc.
A. The Rotary club will pay all fees for the student to attend the seminar. The Travel Information, Payment Information will be taken care of by the rotary club after a student meeting the criteria is chosen from the selected essays. The student/ with the help of the school official/ parent and myself will complete the sections of the application after a student has been selected.
Q. Do we need to nominate the students or would we simply forward the application site to them?
A. Please see my new addendum above to help with your submissions to me on behalf of the Twin Peaks Rotary Club.
