Academy of Engineering & Aerospace

Academy of Engineering & Aerospace

The Erie Academy of Engineering and Aerospace offers a four year pathway towards a Computer Science Engineering specialization or an Aerospace Engineering specialization. In each pathway, students engage in coursework that builds towards their senior capstone project where they will showcase their specialized skill sets in a collaborative engineering project.

In addition to the specialized pathway each student chooses within Erie High School’s Academy of Engineering and Aerospace, students are encouraged to pursue a rigorous course load in math and science to support their chosen specialization. Pairing honors and advanced placement courses with a robust variety of engineering electives will prepare students to be competitive applicants and eventual students in the best engineering university programs in the country, including top Colorado programs: i.e. CU Boulder’s School of Aerospace & Engineering Sciences and Colorado School of Mines.

Levels of Recognition

We encourage students to try our engineering course offerings even if they cannot commit to completing the Engineering Diploma requirements. The images below detail different tiers of completion within the academy with the diploma option as the highest and most rigorous tier of completion. Students who engage in our pathway courses at all levels deserve recognition. The multiple tiers will honor students for their hard work at the level that best fits each individual student’s academic plan.

  • Engineering Pin: Students who complete four semesters of engineering coursework and one Innovation Center course will earn an Engineering Pin. This option is recommended for students who want to sample Engineering courses.
  • Engineering Certificate: Students who complete the Engineering Pathway (no GPA or AP/Honors requirements) will earn an Engineering Pin after year 2 and an Engineering Certificate upon graduation. This option is recommended for students who have a strong interest in Engineering but do not follow the AP/Honors track.
  • Engineering Diploma: Students who complete the Engineering Pathway with required AP/Honors coursework and a GPA of 3.5+ will earn an Engineering Pin after year 2 and an Engineering Diploma with accompanying stole upon graduation. This is the most rigorous engineering pathway and recommended for students hoping to pursue Engineering at a 4 year university.
