Academy of Engineering & Aerospace

The Erie Academy of Engineering and Aerospace offers a four year engineering pathway that prepares students to compete in their post-secondary engineering pursuits, both at the college and career level. In each pathway, students engage in coursework that builds towards their senior capstone project where they will showcase their specialized skill sets in a collaborative engineering project.

In addition to the specialized pathway each student chooses within Erie High School’s Academy of Engineering and Aerospace, students are encouraged to pursue a rigorous course load in math and science to support their chosen specialization. Pairing honors and advanced placement courses with a robust variety of engineering electives will prepare students to be competitive applicants and eventual students in the best engineering university programs in the country, including top Colorado programs: i.e. CU Boulder’s School of Aerospace & Engineering Sciences and Colorado School of Mines.

Industry Ready Skills & Certifications

Our coursework is designed to support students in their completion of several industry level certifications that will prepare them for competitive opportunities as they pursue engineering at both the college and career levels. The junior and senior level certifications (Fundamentals of Engineering, Pre-Engineering, & Robotics) are endorsed by Northrop Grumman through the REC Foundation. These rigorous engineering certifications help students identify their strengths, weaknesses, and aptitude for any area of engineering that may interest them and gives students a competitive edge as they apply to their engineering schools or careers of choice.

  • Certified Solidworks Associate: Coursework in CAD 1 and CAD 2 prepares students to complete this industry level certification exam. CAD 1 and CAD 2 are sophomore level engineering courses.
  • Certified Solidworks Professional : Coursework in CAD 1 and CAD 2 prepares students to complete this industry level certification exam. CAD 1 and CAD 2 are sophomore level engineering courses.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering Certification: The first three years of engineering coursework prepares students for this industry level certification which students take at the end of their Junior year.
  • Pre-Engineering and/or Robotics Certification: Students who pass their Fundamentals of Engineering Certification exam their Junior year will take Senior Design, the capstone class for this program. This culminating course will prepare students to pass either the Pre-Engineering exam or the Robotics exam, depending on how they specialized their Junior year. During this culminating year, students will also complete a year long capstone project and internship that supports their future engineering goals.
