Community Update (August 11th, 2023)

Dear Erie High School Families,

I hope that you and your family have enjoyed a great week and that your summer is wrapping up nicely.  This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming back our faculty to begin formal preparations for the 2023-2024 school year.  I enjoyed and appreciated the opportunity to collaborate with them on how we can ensure that we are consistently and uniformly focused on teaching, supporting, and mentoring our students so that they will thrive in our school this year.

On Wednesday, August 16th, we will welcome the Erie High School Class of 2027 for our Freshmen Orientation Day led by the EHS Link Crew.  I appreciate the hard work and dedication of our LINK leaders who have been preparing for this event to welcome our freshmen for months.  This will be a great chance for the members of the Class of 2027 to meet peers and teachers, to learn to navigate our campus, and to deepen their understanding of the Erie High School experience.

On Thursday, August 17th, we will welcome all students back for the 2023-2024 school year.  I am excited to begin this new year, and particularly look forward to observing all of the great achievements and experiences that lay ahead for our students.  Please note that we have revised our bell schedule for the new year – I encourage students and families to familiarize themselves with this schedule prior to the first day of school.

Prior to August 17th, all students should review their class schedule in Infinite Campus.  This is a great way to confirm that there have been no changes over the summer, and a great first step in setting up for a successful first few days of school.  I am a big believer in the importance of a fast start to the school year – I recommend that students, in collaboration with their parents and families, ensure that they have a great plan for success at the outset of the school year.  It is much easier to sustain a strong start than it is to correct a poor start to the school year!f

This year, we will continue our school wide focus on punctuality and attendance.  There is no substitute for in-person learning time, where students have the opportunity to engage with teachers, peers, and support staff in our school.  I appreciate your efforts to support your child(ren) in planning for their school day in a way that ensures consistent attendance and punctuality.  Upon this important foundation, our students will have a much better opportunity to thrive this school year.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we support all of our students to thrive this school year.  I hope that you and your family have a great weekend and that you enjoy the last few days of summer break.  I am looking forward to a great year!

Sincerely,

Josh Griffin
