Community Update 3.10.2023

Dear Erie High School Families,

We have enjoyed another great week at Erie High School – thank you for your sustained support of your child(ren) and our school community as we continue to challenge our students to grow as people, students, athletes, artists, and citizens.  This week, I had the opportunity to visit multiple science classes, and I was very impressed with the knowledge and skills that our students are developing in these important classes!  As we quickly proceed through the spring semester, I am proud of the great work that our students, faculty, and staff are pursuing on a daily basis.

Last night, I had the opportunity to attend the EHS Theater spring musical performance of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.  It was an incredible show – I am proud of the student performers, stage crew members, and instrumental musicians involved in the production, and grateful to Mr. Wright, Mrs. Smiley, and the rest of the musical staff members for their hard work and dedication to supporting this outstanding performance.  I hope we will have a great audience turnout for our remaining shows Friday, March 10th and Saturday, March 11th.

Last weekend, three Robotics teams featuring Erie High School students qualified for the VEX Robotics World Championships based upon their respective performances at the Colorado state championships.  The three teams of EHS students were – 2662U Unknown Error, 946R Rock Lobsters, and 3743C Intellectual Idiots. The Intellectual Idiots qualified based on their skills performance. Unknown Error won the Design Award which recognizes the team with the most effective and efficient robot design process. They also were tournament finalists. The Rock Lobsters were tournament champions, winning the 2023 Colorado VEX High School State Championship with their alliance partner from Longmont High School, team 2654P Pronounce This! The robotics program is a great way for our students to develop their critical thinking and teamwork skills, as they apply their content knowledge to hands-on learning opportunities.  I am proud of these students and wish them the very best at the world competition in April!

As we head into the weekend, we have only one more week of school prior to Spring Break.  I look forward to a great week of learning and growth for our students as we prepare for a well-earned break!  Thank you for your continued and ongoing support of your child(ren) and our school!

Sincerely,
Josh Griffin
