Erie High School hosted its first home swim meet in school history. The meet took place at the Carbon Valley Recreation Center in Frederick which is hosting the EHS team. It was a packed house as parents, friends and supporters turned out to cheer on the 74 girls on the team. The team is coached by head coach Kelly Shipley, Erie High School science teacher and former coach of last year’s State Champion team at Longmont High School with assistants EHS counselor Molly Creek and Erie Elementary PE teacher Ann Apple. Dry land conditioning is coached by Mead High PE teacher and EHS faculty spouse Abby Hicks.
The team has swimmers from all along the swimming continuum from State contenders to girls who have never dived into a pool head first. As a team, though, they are an amazing source of support for one another and are enjoying working as a team to work through this inaugural season. The team has a staff of great managers (Alec, Parker, Hunter and August) who make sure everyone is where they need to be for their race and cheer on the girls as they race through the water. The team will compete early on Saturday for their first away meet.
