Update on priorities / winter sports and performing arts

Community Update – 01.20.2023

Dear Erie High School families,

We enjoyed an outstanding week at Erie High School this week.  With the inclement weather on Wednesday, I am grateful for the commitment of our students and teachers, and the support of our families, in allowing us to continue learning.  I am impressed with the flexibility and engagement of our Erie High School community, and I was proud to see learning continue for our students in spite of the weather-related building closure.

Throughout the course of our first two weeks of school since Winter Break, I appreciate the thoughtfulness and consideration our students have shown for on-time attendance in class.  As I shared two weeks ago, punctuality is a focus for us this semester, and our students have done a nice job of aligning their practices with this expectation.  I am confident that the benefits of our attention to punctuality and attendance will pay short-term and long-term benefits to our students.

Outside of the classroom, we have a lot of current exciting opportunities for our students to shine in athletics, arts, and community service.  Our girls swim/dive team, wrestling team, Unified Basketball team, and girls and boys basketball programs are all in the midst of their competitive seasons.  It has been great to see our students, staff, and families out supporting these programs – I encourage all of our community members to consider how they can offer their support to our hard-working, dedicated student-athletes.  You can keep up with all of the athletic competitions for Erie High School on our Athletic Calendar

Last night, I had the privilege of attending the 2023 St. Vrain Valley Schools All-District Honor Orchestra event.  This was an incredible opportunity for SVVSD students, and I was proud to watch 9 Erie High School students perform in this orchestra.  Also on Tuesday evening, the Erie High School CR5 choir group sang the National Anthem at the CU men’s basketball game.  With the strong support of our SVVSD leadership team, our Erie High School music, performing arts, and visual arts programs are outstanding, and they play a vital role in our school community.  Next week, our Choir students will perform in the all-district Choir event on Tuesday at Lyons Middle/Senior HIgh School.  I am excited to see our students thrive in their various musical, theater, and artistic endeavors – thank you for your support of these great programs for our students!

I hope that you all enjoy a restful, and relaxing weekend in preparation for another great week at Erie High School.

Sincerely,
Josh Griffin
Erie High School Principal
