St. Vrain Valley Schools has a committee that decides policy around technology needs for students in SVVSD. The secondary ITAC (Instructional Technology Advisory Committee) met and discussed an issue, and after considering the instructional uses of GChat (the chat feature built into student email), the challenges of managing the tool in middle school, and alternative communication tools, the committee recommended disabling Google Chat for all secondary students.

• GChat will be disabled for all secondary students;
• Alternative tools for teacher/student communication include Schoology discussions, email, and Webex (including Webex chat) will continue to be available to teachers and students;

GChat will be disabled this Friday afternoon, September 24th. If you have any questions or concerns about this change, please speak with an administrator at EHS’s main office.
