Course Selection & Final Exams

Dear Erie High School Families,

Happy Veterans Day

As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, we have a great deal both to celebrate and be thankful for at Erie High School.  I wish all Erie High School students, staff, families, and community members a very Happy Veterans Day.  This is an important day to share our sincere appreciation and gratitude to all of those individuals that have served our great nation in the Armed Forces.  As the grandson of two US Army veterans who served during World War II, Veterans Day is always an important day of gratitude and appreciation for those men and women who have served the United States.  At Erie High School, we have six veterans serving our students and community as members of our faculty/staff – please join me in thanking and honoring Mr. Ken Ailey, Mr. Jeff Giger, Mr. Chris Kline, Mr. Matt McCracken, Ms. Heather Parajara, and Mr. Randie Robinette for their service!

2022-2023 Final Exam Schedule

As we look forward to the final few weeks of the 1st semester of our school year, I encourage students and families to familiarize themselves with the 2022-2023 Final Exams schedule.  As we get closer to the Final Exams window, we will communicate more specifics regarding those school days for our students.  Final exams are an important component of our school year, and I wish our students the very best as they finish up the last few weeks of the semester in preparation for those exams.

Course Selection for the 2023-2024 school year

This week in Advisory, our students participated in their first formal presentation regarding course selection for next school year.  Course selection is one of the most important processes a student and family will experience in our school.  As a large, comprehensive high school, we have strong core academic offerings, and an array of diverse course offerings for students to further pursue their passions and interests.  It is important for students to be thoughtful in their course selection each year, and my hope is that each student will ensure their course requests are well-aligned with their postsecondary personal, academic, and professional goals.  Additionally, I encourage students and families to maintain familiarity with and consideration of our SVVSD graduation requirements.

We are fortunate to have robust site-based offerings in World Languages, Art, Music, Performing Arts, PE, and journalism/broadcasting, all of which complete our strong core offerings.  Additionally, students have access to outstanding programs through SVVSD at the Career Elevation and Technology Center and the Innovation Center, as well as college-level coursework through AP courses, P-Teach, and Front Range Community College courses.  I encourage our students and families to work together to ensure a thoughtful, aligned decision-making process in course selection in the upcoming months.  Please be on the lookout for more communication on the registration process after Thanksgiving.  In the meantime, you can begin exploring course offerings on our Course Description website.

Senior Design Engineering Projects

In the past two weeks, I had the opportunity to attend the Senior Design project presentations from our five student groups in the Academy of Engineering and Aerospace Senior Design course.  I was very impressed by the thoughtful, organized presentations of these students, and I look forward to seeing their final projects.  Four Erie High School student groups will design and build a rocket for The American Rocketry Challenge, and one student group will design an Unmanned Aircraft System for package delivery in the Real World Design Challenge.  I am proud of these students for their outstanding work and grateful to the teachers that have supported these students in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to compete in these challenging competitions.

National Letter of Intent Signing

Additionally, please join me in congratulating the 7 members of the Erie High School Class of 2023 that signed their National Letter of Intent on Wednesday to continue their academic and athletic careers at the collegiate level:

  • Ethan Dillinger, Air Force, Baseball
  • Karson Evens, Limestone University, Lacrosse
  • Evan Kraus, Creighton University, Cross Country & Track
  • Cyrus Neghabat, Cal Poly, Soccer
  • Holden Pantier, Wichita State, Baseball
  • Colin Selters, Limestone University, Lacrosse

The achievement of attending college as a student-athlete is a great tribute to the hard work of our students, the dedication of our coaching staff and teachers, and the support of our families.  I am proud of each of these students and wish them the very best at the next level!

Thank you for your continued support of your child(ren) and our school.  I hope that you and your family have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,
Josh Griffin
