Dear Erie High School families,

Thank you for your support during another exciting week at Erie High School.  I enjoyed the opportunity to visit several World Languages classes this week and was impressed by the commitment of our students to deepen their understanding of a second language (if not a third or fourth!) during their high school careers.  I continue to be uplifted by the dedication of our students and teachers to quality learning throughout our school.

In recent weeks, I have engaged in positive conversations with members of our SVVSD Operations & Management and our district leadership teams to increase capacity within our facilities to best accommodate growth.  I am excited to share this important update regarding plans for improving our main parking lot and increasing our instructional space in preparation for the 2023-2024 school year.

This week, I enjoyed my first-ever day of “Singing Valentines” at Erie High School.  Our choir and orchestra students did a great job of organizing and performing songs throughout the school day in tribute to fellow students and staff members.  I was impressed by the great talent and passion for music exhibited by these students, and I am grateful to Mrs. Burd and Mrs. Smiley for their efforts to organize this positive community event for Valentine’s Day.

Additionally, we had the opportunity to celebrate National School Resource Officer Day on Wednesday, February 15th.  We are fortunate to maintain a strong partnership with the Erie Police Department, and a primary benefit of that partnership is the support and service of our two SROs – Officer Thoen and Officer Willyard.  These two outstanding officers are strongly committed to ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of all Erie High School students, staff, and community members.  I am grateful for their dedication to our school and appreciate their service to our broader Erie community.

Finally, thank you to the students and families that joined us Wednesday evening for Parent-Teacher Conferences and the Dean’s List presentations.  It was a great opportunity for our teachers, staff, and administrators to connect with our students and families.  In conferences, teachers had the opportunity to share feedback and tips for success in their classes, and in our Dean’s List presentations, Mr. Stecina did a wonderful job of honoring our recipients in a dignified manner.  Thanks to Mr. Bird and the Erie Tiger Network crew for live-streaming the Dean’s List ceremonies.

It was an action-packed four-day week in our school.  I appreciate your continued commitment and support to your child(ren) and our school.  I hope that you and your family enjoy a wonderful, restful, and relaxing four-day weekend for the Presidents’ Day holiday!

Sincerely,
Josh Griffin
